Cinema’s Alchemist: The Films of Peter Forgacs (editor, with Michael Renov)

This collection of essays captures the complex, fascinating range of work created by Peter Forgacs over the last few decades. His films take home movies, often from the a much earlier time, and shape them into social chronicles of what he calls “private history.”  They the day to day lives of individuals in which the shadows of much greater forces from the Nazi pursuit of a “final solution” to the imposition of totalitarian regimes on much of Eastern Europe grow in visibility thanks to Forgacs’s creative intervention.
